Birthday Visit

Some thoughts about what we might do while the family is here for my birthday.

Wed Dec 8

  • 12:30pm Christina & Michael arrive
  • 1:40pm Dad & Jean arrive
  • Settle in, meet the cats, tour of 618A Buchanan Street, light lunch, explore Hayes Valley
  • 4-7pm Holidays at the Embarcadero Center — stroll the different shops and restaurants along the waterfront for special treats and complimentary samples and tastes.
  • 5:30-7:30pm Fatted Calf charcuturie happy hour (snacks, beer, wine, butchering demo)
  • Dinner at home or take advantage of the Alamo Square Seafood Grill no corkage fee on Wednesdays to enjoy two of the Rosenblum Zinful Ladies from Dad & Jean’s birthday gift last year

  • 2:18pm Carl & Lisa arrive
  • 4:10pm Erik, Alisha & Ethan arrive
  • Explore Hayes Valley, including sculpture from the series Mark worked on for Burning Man now installed in Hayes Green (pictured)
  • 6-10pm Academy of Sciences NightLife (or go during regular hours 9:30am-5pm)

Friday Dec 10

  • 9-10am Take advantage of being on East Coast time to get early risers to the Japanese Tea Garden for free entrance before 10am (regularly $7)
  • Check out the de Young Museum Observation Tower (free)
  • California Academy of Sciences (if we haven’t made it there yet)
  • Tour the rest of Golden Gate Park
  • 3-5pm Private tour of the Autodesk Gallery — finally learn what my company does
  • Ferry Building Marketplace
    Conveniently located across from where I work (pictured from my office building on the day the Olympic Torch came through town). Lots of shops, food options, and beautiful views of the Bay.
